Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams attempted to keep their starters healthy throughout the preseason by resting them, but two key players were lost in Week 1. Pharoh Cooper and Mike Thomas, the Rams’ primary return men, both suffered injuries that would keep them out multiple weeks, according to McVay.
Well, it turns out Cooper will be out at least eight weeks after he was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
The Rams brought back JoJo Natson to replace Cooper, but it’s difficult to truly find a player who can match Pharoh’s production on kick and punt returns. He was an All-Pro last season – first-team on kick returns and second-team on punts – which shows his value to the team.
By being placed on IR, Cooper is out at least the next eight weeks. The Rams can designate him to return after those eight weeks if they feel he’s healthy enough to play, but that’s reserved for just two players, so they’ll have to choose wisely.
Most players who land on IR remain out for the entire season, so it remains to be seen how long Cooper will be sidelined.
